Background: Like many of the other ways in which women’s bodies are reduced to a mere sum of the parts, we see specific parts being overemphasized in advertising. This exhibit focuses on the prevalence of the mouth in ads. Discussion Questions: (1) Why are certain body parts of women so commonly portrayed in advertising? (2) Why are similar body parts of men not represented in similar contexts or quantity?
