Animals
Background: Men and women have been represented as animals in various ads. This collection features ads of both sexes. Note that some of the ideologies that appear connected with animals reflect other assumptions from other ad collections (such as the woman of color being seen as exotic and animalistic). Discussion Questions: (1) What sorts of associations can be made between the depiction of men and women as various animals? (2) Are there differences in the types of animals that men and women represent in these ads? (3) What do any differences between these representations suggest about the cultural and political associations of men and women in ads?
