Social Class
Background: In addition to the negative constructions of gender and sexuality in popular advertising, we also find numerous examples of social class and capitalistic values presented in ads. Many of them have disturbing approaches. The Ads: Some of the most disturbing social class ads include 6, 7 and 8. Discussion Questions: (1) Reviews images # 6, 7, and 8. What are the political implications of these ads? (2) In what ways do these ads reflect our understandings of social class? In what ways do they not? (3) Do social class ads share any characteristics in common with other gender ads?
